KATHMANDU: Humla district has been severely affected by heavy snowfall, throwing daily life out of gear.

Roads linking the district headquarters, Simikot, to the northern Namkha Rural Municipality and other areas have been blocked.

Continuous snowfall over the past two days has also forced the suspension of flights to Simikot from Nepalgunj and Surkhet.

Despite the harsh weather, government offices in the district headquarters remained operational, with fires lit inside offices to provide services to the public, Chief District Officer Tek Kumar Regmi said.

Personnel from the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal Army, and government offices have intensified efforts to clear snow from Simikot Airport to resume air services.

Meanwhile, rainfall in the southern parts of the district has further disrupted transportation.

Ahead of the upcoming House of Representatives election, candidates from all seven political parties that have registered nominations in Humla said they are continuing door-to-door campaigning despite the ongoing snowfall.

Local residents, however, have welcomed the snowfall.

According to them, the snow is beneficial for winter crops such as barley, wheat, and buckwheat planted in Mangsir, raising hopes for a better harvest this season.
