Heavy snow blocks Karnali Highway, Nagma–Gamgadhi road closed

KATHMANDU: Heavy snowfall has blocked the Karnali Highway, cutting off the Nagma–Gamgadhi road connecting Sinja to Mugu.
The road, cleared with bulldozers after the first snowfall two days ago, has become impassable again due to fresh snow.
The Jumla Road Division Office reported that continuous snowfall and rain since Tuesday night have made travel impossible.
No vehicles are currently moving on the road, and local authorities have urged people not to risk the journey.
“There is too much snow to clear the road while it is still falling,” the office said. JCB are ready, and clearing operations will begin as soon as the snowfall stops, according to field officer Tulraj Upadhyaya.
The blockage has stranded passengers traveling between Mugu, Jumla, Surkhet, and Nepalgunj. Vehicles coming from these towns to Mugu are also stuck mid-route.
This is the second snowfall in Jumla this season. While the snow has caused travel disruptions, local farmers have welcomed it.
Both road and air routes remain affected this morning.
