Health Minister calls for autism schools in all provinces
Minister Paudel highlighted that, in the initial phase, at least one autism school is required in each province.
KATHMANDU: Health and Population Minister Pradeep Paudel has emphasized the need for autism schools in all seven provinces of Nepal.
He made the remarks while receiving a study report submitted by a committee, chaired by Prof. Dr. Deepak Prakash Mahara, on autism treatment, prevention, and related issues.
Minister Paudel highlighted that, in the initial phase, at least one autism school is required in each province.
He stated that the ministry plans to implement this as a long-term project. In Kathmandu, an autism school is set to be established in Budhanilkantha, with construction underway on a designated plot in Budhanilkantha-4.
A budget of Rs 30 million has been allocated for the school in the current fiscal year.
The minister also mentioned that the Kathmandu Metropolitan City has shown interest in supporting the initiative, and coordination will continue.
He further noted that there is currently no accurate data on the number of children with autism in Nepal.
