KATHMANDU: Gyan Bahadur Shahi of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has demanded a parliamentary explanation from Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle over allegations of a leak of sensitive information regarding changes in tax rates ahead of the national budget.

Speaking in Monday’s session of the House of Representatives, Shahi claimed that confidential budget-related tax rate information—known only to the finance minister and authorized officials—had been leaked before the official budget announcement.

He said the leak was a “serious matter” and called for a parliamentary investigation into the finance minister, alleging possible misuse of sensitive fiscal information.

Shahi further claimed that due to the leaked information, 756 vehicles were imported through the Korola border route, with customs clearance completed ahead of the official policy change being implemented later.

“Only the finance minister and authorized persons can know about tax rate changes. But the information was leaked, and 756 vehicles entered through the Kerala checkpoint,” he said, demanding accountability from the government on the issue.

He also urged lawmakers not to engage in what he described as a “path of misgovernance driven by majority power,” and insisted that the finance minister must respond in parliament.
