Gaza violence surges as 32 killed in Khan Younis airstrike

KATHMANDU: Gaza has once again descended into violence even as efforts toward peace and a sustained ceasefire continue.
At least 32 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Khan Younis in southern Gaza, according to local authorities.
Gaza’s Hamas-run Civil Defence Agency said Israeli helicopters targeted a camp sheltering displaced people in the southern part of Khan Younis on Saturday.
Local officials confirmed that women and children make up a large share of the casualties.
Palestinian sources described the attack as the deadliest incident since the second phase of the ceasefire took effect earlier this month.
Israel, however, accused Hamas of breaching the ceasefire first on Friday.
The Israeli military said its operations at multiple locations were carried out in response to Hamas’s actions.
Both sides continue to trade accusations of violating the agreement.
The conflict began after Hamas’s attack on Israel on 7 Oct 2023, which killed about 1,200 people, including 10 Nepali nationals.
Since then, Israel’s military campaign has killed more than 71,660 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Hamas-controlled health authorities.
Since the latest ceasefire came into force on 10 Oct 2025, at least 509 Palestinians and four Israeli soldiers have been killed, underscoring the fragility of truce efforts amid ongoing hostilities.
