KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader and special general convention supporter Gagan Thapa has claimed that the party’s Central Working Committee (CWC) has been dissolved, asserting that a new committee is in the process of being formed.

Speaking at the closing session of the special convention at Bhrikutimandap, Thapa said, “The Central Working Committee has been dissolved. We are in the process of forming a new committee. This is Nepali Congress. We are the successors of BP Koirala and Ganeshman Singh. This is Congress.”

He also declared that the CWC meeting held in Sanepa was invalid, stating, “We, the two general secretaries, went there this morning and asked them to step back from their executive roles. The Sanepa meeting cannot hold authority because the Central Working Committee has ceased to exist.”

EC Must Recognize Special General Convention, Thapa Says

Addressing the special convention, Thapa urged the Election Commission to recognize the outcomes of the event, arguing that decisions were made with a majority of delegates present.

“We tried until the very last moment. I trust the Election Commission, the law, and all institutions. The Commission must recognize the decisions made at the special general convention,” he asserted.

He further emphasized that the convention proceeded through proper procedures, countering claims that some members were forced or coerced.

Thapa said prior communications had been sent to the Election Commission, and the Deuba faction had invited them for dialogue.

Inclusive Leadership Ahead, Thapa Pledges

Thapa vowed that the leadership elected through the special general convention would include all party workers, emphasizing unity and patience.

“Standing on the side of truth, we will move forward. The Election Commission, the Constitution, and the law will officially recognize this Congress. We have no reason to fear anyone. Nepali Congress must uphold its dignity, and social media should not be used for negativity against anyone,” he said.

He also sent a message of party unity, stating, “After the election, we will seek the blessings of Sher Bahadur Deuba.”

Thapa concluded by assuring that the Deuba faction would not succeed in undermining party workers through procedural or administrative tactics. “Attempts to disrupt our colleagues and challenge the Election Commission across the country will not succeed. I urge all friends to remain patient,” he said.
