KATHMANDU: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari, who recently announced her return to active politics with the CPN-UML, is preparing to voluntarily return the government facilities she has been receiving as a former head of state.

According to a source close to Bhandari, she has already decided to forgo most of the state-provided privileges and is set to formally request the return of the remaining ones from the beginning of Shrawan.

“She decided not to avail herself of many of the facilities while moving out of the official residence,” the source stated. “Now, arrangements are being made to return the rest as well.”

After completing her term, Bhandari had been receiving benefits such as the salaries of two personal secretaries, rent for housing security personnel, and fuel allowances.

However, the source claims she has not utilized these services since vacating Sheetal Niwas, the official presidential residence.

On Ashar 14, Bhandari publicly renewed her membership with CPN-UML during the commemoration of Madan Bhandari Memorial Day and declared her reentry into active politics.
