Former NC lawmakers’ SC visit postponed
The meeting and pressure-oriented program, set for Thursday, was called off after Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut was unable to allocate time due to a busy schedule.
KATHMANDU: The scheduled visit of former lawmakers from the Nepali Congress (NC) to the Supreme Court, planned to press for the reinstatement of the House of Representatives, has been postponed at the last minute.
The meeting and pressure-oriented program, set for Thursday, was called off after Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut was unable to allocate time due to a busy schedule.
In a notice, the organizers said the pre-planned program had to be postponed due to “special reasons.” A statement issued by the party read: “The delegation of former Nepali Congress lawmakers had scheduled a visit to the Supreme Court. However, due to special technical reasons, the program has been postponed for the time being.”
According to Shyam Kumar Ghimire, former chief whip of the dissolved House and a senior NC leader, the Chief Justice’s secretariat informed them that the meeting was not possible because of a clash in the schedule.
“We were preparing to go to the Supreme Court at 10:30 am on Thursday, but the Chief Justice’s office called to say time could not be managed, so the program was postponed,” Ghimire said.
A total of 65 former NC lawmakers have already filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court demanding the restoration of the dissolved House of Representatives.
Claiming that the dissolution of Parliament was unconstitutional, they have expressed concern that hearings on their petition have not progressed. The planned visit was intended to draw the Chief Justice’s attention to the issue.
