KATHMANDU: Nepali film industry veteran and popular actor Sunil Thapa’s mortal remains were laid at the Film Development Board for the public to pay their last respects.

The 68-year-old actor passed away on Saturday morning at Norvic Hospital in Thapathali due to a heart attack.

He was admitted to the hospital in an unconscious state, and his death was confirmed around 7:30 AM through an ECG report.

Thapa, who had been living in his Shankhamul apartment, was widely known in Nepali cinema by the nickname “Rate Kaila.”

He had a career spanning over four decades, acting in more than 300 films across Nepali, Bollywood, and Bhojpuri cinema.

He gained recognition for roles such as the coach in Priyanka Chopra’s Mary Kom and appeared in popular series like The Family Man.

Thapa was also celebrated for redefining the role of the antagonist in Nepali films.

Filmmakers, colleagues, and prominent personalities from various fields have visited the board to pay tribute to the legendary actor.
