Everton were forced to play with 10 men from the 13th minute after Idrissa Gueye was shown a red card for a reckless challenge on teammate Michael Keane.
However, the visitors struck first in the 29th minute.
Dewsbury-Hall unleashed a powerful shot from outside the penalty area that goalkeeper Senne Lammens managed to get a hand on, but could not keep out.
United dominated the second half and pushed hard for an equalizer, but goalkeeper Jordan Pickford produced several crucial saves, denying Brian Mbeumo and Joshua Zirkzee to preserve Everton’s lead.
The win marks Everton’s first victory at Old Trafford since 2013.
With the result, Everton climb to 11th in the Premier League standings, level on points with Manchester United, who sit 10th.
United missed a key opportunity to break into the top five.
