KATHMANDU: FC Barcelona defender Eric García has officially signed a new contract that will keep him at Camp Nou until June 2031.
The signing took place on Thursday at the club offices during a ceremony attended by club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco.
With this extension, García now has a contract length similar to that of forward Lamine Yamal and fellow defender Ronald Araújo, marking him as a key part of Barça’s long-term future.
García, who returned to Barcelona from Manchester City in the summer of 2021, initially struggled to secure a solid place in the first team. He even spent the 2023–24 season on loan at Girona.
However, his career took a positive turn following the arrival of Hansi Flick as Barcelona head coach in 2024.
Flick utilized García in multiple positions, including right-back and centre-back, greatly increasing his importance to the squad.
As a result, García made 45 appearances last season and has already featured 21 times in the first four months of the current campaign.
During the signing ceremony, García expressed his happiness, saying he is “very excited and proud” to continue at the club he considers home.
