KATHMANDU: England sealed their place in the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with a hard-fought 24-run victory over Italy in a Group C clash on Monday.

Will Jacks starred with an unbeaten 53 off just 22 deliveries, while Tom Banton chipped in with 30 and Sam Curran added a valuable 25 runs.

In reply, Italy cricket team put up a spirited chase but were eventually restricted to 178 all out.

Ben Manenti’s explosive 60 off 25 balls and Grant Stewart’s 45 from 23 deliveries briefly put England under pressure, but the bowlers held their nerve in the death overs to secure the win.

With this result, West Indies cricket team and England have both qualified for the Super 8s from Group C, finishing level on six points each.

Behind them, Scotland cricket team and Italy ended the group stage with two points apiece, while Nepal cricket team bowed out without a point.

England’s commanding batting display and composed bowling under pressure underline their strong momentum heading into the Super 8 stage, where tougher challenges await.

Nepal will play their final group match against Scotland on Tuesday night, looking to finish the tournament on a positive note.
