Durga Prasai eludes cops capture for three days following royalist protest
Although the police have mobilized forces and conducted raids in various locations, they have been unable to capture him.
KATHMANDU: On Friday, Durga Prasai, the commander of the royalist movement in the Tinkune area, has remained elusive despite a three-day search by the police.
Although the police have mobilized forces and conducted raids in various locations, they have been unable to capture him.
Following the protest on Friday, Prasai went underground after reaching Imadol in Lalitpur.
Despite several raids to apprehend him, the authorities have yet to locate him. However, he has remained active on social media.
The police have deployed a special team to search for Prasai, but their efforts have been unsuccessful. Since Saturday, the search operations have been intensified.
According to police officials, they attempted to track him using technology, but so far, they have not been successful.
A police officer mentioned that tracking social media like Facebook requires the assistance of international companies such as Meta.
Since Meta does not have an office in Nepal, obtaining crucial information quickly has been a challenge.
On Sunday evening, Prasai posted a video on Facebook, claiming he was safely staying in a temple in Kathmandu.
He accused the government of escalating the movement into a violent one and alleged that Prime Minister KP Oli had ordered to shoot him upon capture. He explained that he had been forced into hiding due to security concerns.
During the Friday protest, Prasai was seen driving a vehicle and breaching the restricted area, even pushing back the police.
The authorities believe he had planned to escalate the protest into violence. He is accused of being involved in violent activities, which is why he has been placed on the police’s wanted list.
The government has also increased surveillance on other individuals involved in the protest.
While the police continue to monitor potential hideouts, Prasai remains on the run. With three days passing without his capture, the government is reportedly preparing to adopt a more stringent approach in the coming days.
