KATHMANDU: Preparations are underway to swear in newly appointed Chief Justice Dr. Manoj Sharma today, as authorities move swiftly through the final stages of his appointment process.

Dr. Sharma, who was recommended as the 33rd Chief Justice by the Constitutional Council on May 7, is currently undergoing parliamentary hearings, with 16 complaints submitted against him to the parliamentary hearing committee.

The committee began deliberations early Tuesday morning.

According to a leader from the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), the hearing and approval process is being expedited, with plans to endorse Sharma today.

If approved, he could begin assigning court listings from Wednesday.

Once the appointment is endorsed, Parliament Secretariat is expected to forward the decision to the Office of the President.

Based on this notification, the President’s Office typically schedules the swearing-in ceremony.

The same source claimed efforts are being made to coordinate a ceremony as early as 6 PM today, after which Dr. Sharma would assume office at the Supreme Court in the evening.

However, the President’s Office spokesperson Ritesh Kumar Shakya stated that no official information regarding the swearing-in has been received so far.
