Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma sworn in as 33rd Chief Justice
Dr. Sharma was sworn in shortly after being unanimously endorsed by the Parliamentary Hearing Committee earlier in the day.
KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Chief Justice of Nepal, Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma, has taken the oath of office and secrecy before President Ram Chandra Paudel amid a special ceremony held at Sheetal Niwas on Tuesday.
Dr. Sharma was sworn in shortly after being unanimously endorsed by the Parliamentary Hearing Committee earlier in the day.
Following the endorsement, President Paudel formally appointed him as the 33rd Chief Justice of Nepal in accordance with the constitutional provision that mandates the President to appoint the Chief Justice upon recommendation of the Constitutional Council and approval by the parliamentary committee.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by several high-ranking state officials, including Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Balendra Shah, Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal, and National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal, among others.
Dr. Sharma had been recommended for the post of Chief Justice by the Constitutional Council on Baisakh 24. He is set to serve a full six-year tenure at the Supreme Court and will lead the country’s judiciary until Jestha 2089 BS.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Parliamentary Hearing Committee unanimously approved his name after completing the constitutional hearing process.
