Corruption case filed against Nepal Reinsurance Chair

KATHMANDU: A corruption case has been filed against Surendra Kumar Paudel, Chair of Nepal Reinsurance Company.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed the case at a Special Court on Sunday, accusing Paudel and seven others of corruption during their tenure at Udayapur Cement Company.

Paudel was appointed as Chair of Nepal Reinsurance Company for a four-year term on Sept 5 by then Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel.

The CIAA has demanded compensation of Rs 124,722,242.11 from Paudel, along with fines and imprisonment as per the applicable law.

Other accused include former Acting General Manager Nawal Kishor Sah, former Deputy General Manager Mahesh Prasad Kafle, Production Division Chief Sanjay Kumar Lal, Store Division Chief Mahesh Prasad Kafle, Production Department Head Rabi Chandra Paudel, Cement Production Division official Hari Prasad Adhikari, and Sales Department Head Ram Bahadur BC.

The court filing alleges that the defendants embezzled government property, causing financial loss to the state.

Different compensation amounts have been specified for each accused, according to Krishna Sharan Lamichhane, spokesperson for the Special Court.
