Congress to block Parliament until PM issues apology
He argued that the remarks made by the head of government have raised serious concerns over Nepal’s diplomatic sensitivity and political responsibility.
KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress National Assembly Chief Whip Padam Bahadur Pariyar has strongly objected to Prime Minister Balen Shah’s remarks in Parliament regarding Nepal–India border issues, warning that House proceedings will be obstructed unless an apology is issued.
Speaking at the beginning of Tuesday’s National Assembly meeting, Pariyar termed the Prime Minister’s statement that Nepal has also encroached on Indian territory as “unforgivable and highly objectionable,” demanding either a factual clarification in Parliament or a formal apology.
He argued that the remarks made by the head of government have raised serious concerns over Nepal’s diplomatic sensitivity and political responsibility.
“The Prime Minister’s statement is unforgivable, objectionable, and highly condemnable,” Pariyar said. “He must come to Parliament and clearly present facts on where and how much Indian land Nepal has encroached, otherwise he should apologize.”
Pariyar further stated that the Prime Minister has no authority to make unverified claims on such a sensitive border issue without evidence, warning that parliamentary business cannot proceed until the matter is clarified.
He also called for the government’s official position to be made clear, saying the remarks risk damaging Nepal’s diplomatic standing.
In addition, Pariyar criticized comments made during Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane’s visit to India, urging all sides to avoid making light statements on matters affecting bilateral relations.
He emphasized that unverified statements on sensitive border disputes could harm the country’s reputation, urging the government to act responsibly.
