KATHMANDU: The main opposition party, the Nepali Congress, has expressed its commitment to addressing issues related to leadership and representation of Indigenous nationalities in a more effective and structured manner.

The commitment was made on Sunday by party Vice Chair Pushpa Bhusal while receiving a memorandum submitted by officials of the Nepal Indigenous Nationalities Federation at the party headquarters in Sanepa.

Bhusal stated that Nepal’s Constitution is firmly based on the principles of proportional inclusion and diversity, emphasizing that representation of Indigenous communities in state structures is essential.

She further said the party would work both inside Parliament and outside it to ensure proper representation and leadership opportunities for Indigenous nationalities within the party and in government structures.

According to Bhusal, the Nepali Congress is currently in the process of shaping a clear position on constitutional amendments, during which issues related to Indigenous rights will be seriously addressed.

“Nepal’s Constitution has established proportional inclusion and diversity as core principles,” she said, adding that the party is moving toward not only representation but also acceptance of Indigenous leadership in practice.

During the meeting, the federation representatives urged political parties and the government to take their demands seriously and address long-standing concerns with firm commitments.

Nepal Indigenous Nationalities Federation General Secretary Bimal Saru Magar also informed that their concerns and demands were clearly presented to political leaders.
