KATHMANDU: Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki has assured that the upcoming elections will be held on the scheduled date, emphasizing the government’s firm commitment to conducting them without delay.

She clarified that no excuses will be accepted to postpone the polls.

Addressing potential challenges, Karki stated that even if voting is disrupted in certain areas, elections will proceed in a second phase.

She highlighted that the government is fully aware of difficulties posed by extreme cold, particularly in Himalayan districts, and is prepared to transport voters using available vehicles to ensure their participation.

Describing the elections as an “emergency,” Karki said, “Elections must take place under any circumstances. Once citizens cast their votes, newly elected representatives will assume authority to govern the country. There is no reason to delay the polls.”

The government estimates that this election will cost approximately Rs 31–32 billion, with expenditures rising due to the need to address infrastructure and logistical shortcomings.

Karki noted that financial support from friendly nations is helping cover these costs, which otherwise could have been spent on development projects.

She emphasized that the government is fully vigilant and committed to ensuring a peaceful and smooth electoral process.
