KATHMANDU: Citizens Bank International Limited (CBIL) and Nepal Clearing House Limited (NCHL) have signed a historic agreement to operate the NepalPay Card under the National Payment Switch (NPS) framework, covering domestic card schemes via the EFT Switch.
The agreement was officially signed on Tuesday, 27th of Magh, 2082, by CBIL CEO Mr. Ganesh Raj Pokharel and NCHL CEO Mr. Nileshman Singh Pradhan.
Under this partnership, Citizens Bank becomes the first bank among NCHL’s EFT members to issue the NepalPay Card.
The card will be accepted at CBIL ATMs and POS terminals alongside international cards such as Discover, Diners, and Pulse, allowing customers to enjoy seamless domestic and international transactions.
This launch follows CBIL’s recent innovations in digital banking, including Nepal’s first virtual “Citizens PhonePe Credit Card,” the youth-focused “Citizens Gen-Z Savings Account,” the integrated online platform “Citizens Digi Bank Service,” and a specialized “Freelancer Savings Account” for independent professionals. Additionally, customers can now apply for shares and receive their C.R.A.N numbers directly via the mobile banking app, while the cross-bank teller service enables clients of other banks to withdraw cash from CBIL branches using QR code scanning.
With a nationwide presence of 200 branches across 61 districts, 169 ATMs, 42 branchless banking units, and 3 extended counters, Citizens Bank serves nearly 1.98 million customers, offering modern and accessible banking solutions.
