Christmas celebrated worldwide with message of peace & love

KATHMANDU: The Christian community across the world is celebrating Christmas today, commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, who was born in Bethlehem more than two thousand years ago.
The festival is observed with prayers, religious services, cultural programs, family gatherings and charitable activities, reflecting the core message of love, peace and salvation taught by Christ.
According to Christian belief, Jesus Christ was born to the Virgin Mary in Bethlehem and his birth marked the beginning of a new era centered on compassion, forgiveness and service to humanity.
Churches across countries are holding special midnight masses, candlelight services and Christmas prayers to mark the occasion.
Bells rang in churches early in the morning as worshippers gathered to offer prayers and hymns celebrating the birth of Christ.
Religious leaders have emphasized that Christmas is not only a celebration but also a reminder of Christ’s teachings of kindness, humility and unity. Speaking on the significance of the day, Chairman of the Christian Federation, CB Gahatraj, said that Christmas is observed in memory of Christ’s message of hope, love and salvation. He added that the day is also known as the “Day of Love,” the “Day of Peace,” and the “Day of Liberation,” highlighting its deep spiritual and humanitarian meaning.
Festive decorations, Christmas trees, stars and lights have added to the celebratory atmosphere in cities and towns. Homes, churches and public places are adorned with colorful lights, while children eagerly await gifts believed to be brought by Santa Claus, a symbol of generosity and joy associated with the festival. Traditional Christmas meals and sweets are shared among families and friends, strengthening social bonds.
Beyond celebration, Christmas is also marked by acts of charity and social service. Many organizations and churches are distributing food, clothes and essentials to the needy, reflecting Christ’s message of caring for the poor and marginalized. Special programs have been organized for orphaned children, elderly people and disadvantaged communities as part of the Christmas spirit.
The Christian Federation has begun marking the Day with fanfare in Nepal since 2063 BS, organizing prayers, worship programs and cultural events to spread the message of harmony and goodwill.
A Christmas Festival-2025 is being organized with the participation of government representatives, dignitaries and human rights defenders in the federal capital, Kathmandu today.
The government has given a public holiday today. Thamel, Baudha, Pokhara and Sauraha are major places that see special gatherings on Christmas Day in Nepal.
The Federation claims there are 3 million Christians and over 13,000 churches in Nepal.
