KATHMANDU: Chitwan Rhinos posted a challenging 177-run target against defending champions Janakpur Bolts in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) on Tuesday, thanks to a century partnership between David Malan and Arjun Saud.
After winning the toss and opting to bat, Chitwan reached 176 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs. Malan and Arjun added 112 runs for the opening wicket, taking full advantage of Janakpur’s fielding lapses, including six dropped catches.
Malan scored 80 off 54 balls with four fours and five sixes, while Arjun contributed 52 off 39 balls with four fours and three sixes.
Janakpur’s first breakthrough came in the 14th over when Nicol Loftie-Eaton dismissed Arjun. Other notable Chitwan scorers included captain Kushal Malla, who made 30 off 14 balls, and Amar Singh Routela, unbeaten on 1. Anil, Rupesh Singh, Maj Sadakat, and Loftie-Eaton claimed one wicket each for Janakpur.
Chitwan made two changes from their previous game against Kathmandu Gorkhas, bringing in Amar and Saugat Dhakal in place of Rijan Dhakal and Deepak Bohara. Saugat is a talent-hunt recruit for Chitwan.
Janakpur, meanwhile, has lost all four of their matches this season. Anil, though in the playing XI, did not lead the team; Wayne Parnell captained in his place. Last year, Chitwan had defeated Janakpur by 34 runs in the group stage.
Chitwan has won two of their four matches and will face Sudurpaschim Royals in their final league game on Thursday, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
