Chandra wins bronze at IBA World Boxing

KATHMANDU: Nepali boxer Chandra Bahadur Thapa Magar made history by winning a bronze medal in the 54kg category at the ongoing IBA Men’s World Boxing Championship in Dubai.
Thapa reached the semifinals after a series of impressive victories, defeating Bastar Masihor Yogune Holi of Indonesia (5–0) in the Round of 32, Yegoryan Davit of Armenia (5–0) in the Round of 16, and Kazemi Mehdi of Iran (5–0) in the quarterfinals.
He eventually lost 5–0 to Bibosinnov Saken of Kazakhstan in the semifinals, securing the bronze medal and earning $75,000 in prize money.
Head coach Deepak Maharjan expressed his delight at the historic achievement. He said, “We participated with an eye on the 20th Asian Games in Japan. This is a historic achievement, and we are very happy. I thank the Nepal Boxing Federation and everyone who believed in our potential and supported us.”
