It also decided to provide resettlement expenses for squatters displaced from Kathmandu.
KATHMANDU: The government has announced a relief and rehabilitation package for families being displaced during the removal of high-risk settlements along riverbanks in the Kathmandu Valley.
Government Spokesperson and Minister for Education and Sports, Sasmit Pokharel, said that verified displaced families will receive a one-time rehabilitation assistance of Rs 25,000.
To encourage self-managed alternative housing, families with up to five members will be provided Rs 15,000 per month for three months as housing support.
Households with more than five members will receive an additional Rs 2,000 per person per month under the same scheme.
The government has also decided to place elderly, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable individuals who cannot manage their own accommodation in designated holding centers.
It further stated that arrangements will be made in coordination with local governments to ensure continuity of education for children and access to healthcare services for displaced families.
In the same Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, the government approved acceptance of a Swiss grant worth CHF 6.116 million for the Municipal Revenue Enhancement Project.
It also approved acceptance of a grant assistance of RMB 79.36 million from China for the maintenance and improvement of the Araniko Highway.
Additionally, the Cabinet endorsed key legal and administrative reforms, including the “Accreditation Regulations 2083” and the “Military Service (Sixth Amendment) Regulations 2083.” Approval was also granted to present a bill to amend the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 2058, in the Federal Parliament.
The meeting also decided to adjust and reassign positions of secretaries under the Government of Nepal as per the Government Work Division Regulations, 2083.
