Burnt body found in Bhatbhateni, Gen Z protest death toll hits 74

KATHMANDU: Authorities have recovered another charred body from the Koteshwor-based Bhatbhateni Supermarket, raising the death toll from the ongoing Gen Z movement to 74.

According to Kathmandu District Police spokesperson SP Apilraj Bohara, the body was found on Wednesday in a completely burnt state, making immediate identification impossible.

Earlier, seven bodies had been recovered in skeletal form from the Chucchepati branch of Bhatbhateni Supermarket.

Those remains are currently kept at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj, but their identities have yet to be confirmed.

Police said DNA testing is underway to identify the victims.

The Gen Z protests, which erupted last week, have so far claimed 74 lives.
