Burnley hold United to 2–2 draw as Fletcher still seeks first win
Despite late pressure from United, neither side could find a winning goal, and the match ended in a 2–2 stalemate.
KATHMANDU: Burnley and Manchester United played out a dramatic 2–2 draw after Jaidon Anthony’s second-half strike denied interim coach Darren Fletcher his first victory in charge.
Burnley took the lead in the 13th minute, catching United off guard early in the match.
After conceding, United gradually took control of the game and found their equalizer in the 50th minute through Benjamin Šeško.
Šeško struck again in the 60th minute, completing his brace and giving United a 2–1 advantage.
However, Burnley responded quickly, with Jaidon Anthony scoring in the 66th minute to restore parity.
Despite late pressure from United, neither side could find a winning goal, and the match ended in a 2–2 stalemate.
Fulham Stun Chelsea with Late Winner
Fulham secured a thrilling 2–1 victory over Chelsea, thanks to a late winner from Harry Wilson.
Chelsea’s problems began early when Marc Cucurella was shown a red card in the 22nd minute, reducing the visitors to 10 men.
Fulham capitalized on their numerical advantage, taking the lead in the 55th minute through Raúl Jiménez. Chelsea showed resilience, however, and equalized in the 72nd minute with a goal from Liam Delap.
Just when the match seemed headed for a draw, Harry Wilson struck in the 81st minute, sealing all three points for Fulham.
With this win, Fulham move to within three points of the Premier League’s top four.
Manchester City Held Again as Title Hopes Take Another Hit
Manchester City were held to their third consecutive draw in the Premier League after a 1–1 stalemate against Brighton at the Etihad Stadium.
City appeared under pressure from the start, as Brighton created several promising chances but failed to convert them. In the 41st minute, Erling Haaland gave City the lead from the penalty spot after a VAR review awarded them a spot-kick.
Brighton came back strongly in the second half, and Kaoru Mitoma scored the equalizer in the 60th minute, finishing off a well-worked move.
City pushed hard for a late winner, but Haaland and Rayan Cherki both missed clear opportunities. The match eventually ended level.
This draw further dents City’s title hopes. If league leaders Arsenal defeat Liverpool on Thursday, City will fall eight points behind the top.
City will next face Manchester United on January 17 in what promises to be a crucial derby clash.
