KATHMANDU: The battle for qualification in Group C of the FIFA World Cup 2026 is set to intensify on Saturday, with two decisive fixtures that could reshape the knockout-stage race.

Five-time champions Brazil will take on Haiti at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia at 6:15 AM (Nepali time), while group leaders Scotland face Morocco earlier at 3:15 AM at Gillette Stadium.

Brazil Under Pressure After Underwhelming Start

Brazil opened their campaign with a disappointing 1–1 draw, failing to fully assert their dominance despite flashes of brilliance. A spectacular goal from Vinícius Júnior spared them from what could have been one of the tournament’s biggest upsets.

The result leaves Brazil trailing Scotland by two points, increasing the pressure ahead of their clash with Haiti. Another setback could force them into a high-pressure final group match against Scotland.

Head coach Carlo Ancelotti is expected to rotate parts of his squad, with experienced defenders Danilo and Alex Sandro likely to return to the starting lineup. Midfield adjustments may also see Fabinho and Luis Henrique introduced early.

The fitness of Neymar remains uncertain, with the forward unlikely to feature for a second consecutive match.

Despite recent struggles, Brazil hold a dominant historical record against Haiti, including a 7–1 victory in the 2016 Copa América, having scored 17 goals across previous meetings.

Haiti Aim to Stay Defiant

For Haiti, simply competing at the World Cup remains a historic achievement. After a narrow 1–0 defeat to Scotland, coach Sébastien Migné’s side showed strong defensive discipline and resilience.

While they remain underdogs against Brazil, Haiti will look to replicate their structured defensive performance and capitalize on any pressure or mistakes.

Scotland vs Morocco: Group Decider in the Making

The earlier fixture between Scotland and Morocco promises to be a tightly contested encounter with major implications for the group standings.

A win for Scotland would guarantee at least a second-place position, while Morocco could take control of the group with a victory.

Morocco impressed in their draw against Brazil, controlling possession and creating several high-quality chances. Players such as Ismael Saibari, Brahim Díaz, and Achraf Hakimi stood out with strong performances.

Morocco, semifinalists in the 2022 World Cup, continue to build a reputation as a tactically disciplined and dangerous side capable of upsetting higher-ranked opponents.

Historically, Scotland and Morocco have met only twice in World Cup competition, with Morocco winning 3–0 in their most recent encounter in 1998.

With both matches carrying knockout-level intensity, Group C remains wide open — and Saturday’s results could dramatically reshape the path to the next round.
