Bhojpur girl receives citizenship after years in state care

KATHMANDU: Sukumaya Gurung, a girl under the care of Maiti Nepal whose parents remain unidentified, has been granted Nepali citizenship by the District Administration Office (DAO) of Bhojpur.

Chief District Officer Rajan Paudel handed over the citizenship certificate to Gurung at the DAO.

According to the office, she has been issued Citizenship Certificate No. 09-01-82-03559, and her permanent address is Salpasilicho Rural Municipality–6, Bhojpur.

Chief Paudel said that receiving citizenship will make it easier for Sukumaya to access state services and benefits, resolving the challenges she faced due to her lack of legal documentation.
