Bhandari warns of Nepal’s fragile economy, urges youth engagement

KATHMANDU: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has described Nepal’s economy as fragile, highlighting the country’s dependence on imports and growing fiscal challenges.
Speaking at an event in Kathmandu on Thursday, she remarked, “Our economy, which should ideally stand on its own feet, is instead walking on its head.
It is driven by customs-based imports, resulting in an imbalanced trade situation, increasing foreign debt, and the flourishing of speculative capital.
National capital is not developing, creating a distressing scenario for sustainable development.”
She also emphasized the importance of attracting and retaining young talent in the country. “The government must work in line with the aspirations of the new generation,” she urged, calling for policies that engage youth and foster national development.
