KATHMANDU: Sindhupalchowk district’s Bhairav Kund, a sacred and scenic site, remains relatively undiscovered by many tourists.
Located in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-1, the high-altitude pond is gradually gaining attention among domestic travelers seeking spiritual and cultural experiences.
Perched at an elevation of approximately 4,250 meters above sea level, Bhairav Kund hosts a vibrant fair during the full moon of Janai Purnima, attracting devotees and offering a unique blend of religious significance and local cultural charm.
The journey from Kathmandu typically begins with a drive through Barhabise, Listikot, and Daklam, reaching Chagam at around 2,550 meters on the first day.
On the second day, travelers continue by jeep via Bagam, followed by a 2–3 hour trek to Chokarmokar at 3,820 meters, where a few homestays provide accommodation and local hospitality.
From Chokarmokar, reaching Bhairav Kund requires a 4–5 hour trek.
Along the trail, visitors are treated to breathtaking vistas, including the towering peaks of Gaurishankar, Rolwaling, Langtang Lirung, and the snow-capped Sisapangma in neighboring China, making the journey as memorable as the destination itself.
