Benzema joins Al-Hilal, begins new chapter in Saudi Pro League
At Al-Ittihad, Benzema quickly became a key figure, delivering decisive contributions to the club’s domestic triumphs, including the 2025 league title.
KATHMANDU: French star striker Karim Benzema is set to embark on a new chapter in his illustrious career after formally signing with Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal.
Benzema concluded a successful stint with Al-Ittihad, bringing an end to his trophy-laden period in Jeddah, where he played a pivotal role in securing both the Saudi Pro League and King’s Cup titles.
Now, he joins league leaders Al-Hilal, ready to make a fresh start.
After spending more than a decade at Real Madrid, Benzema opted for the Saudi Pro League in the summer of 2023, following the footsteps of global icons like Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined Al-Nassr, boosting the league’s international profile and competitive standards.
At Al-Ittihad, Benzema quickly became a key figure, delivering decisive contributions to the club’s domestic triumphs, including the 2025 league title.
However, negotiations over contract renewal in recent months created some tension between the player and the club.
Sources indicate that proposed terms in January did not meet Benzema’s expectations, leading to his temporary absence, including during the 2–2 draw against Al-Fateh.
With talks stalled, Al-Hilal moved swiftly, opening direct negotiations with Benzema and securing a contract extending until June 2027.
The deal confirms Benzema’s continued presence in Saudi Arabia, effectively ending any return to European football in the near term.
For Al-Hilal coach Simone Inzaghi, Benzema’s arrival strengthens an already formidable attacking lineup featuring Darwin Núñez and Marcos Leonardo, signaling the club’s ambitions for domestic and continental dominance.
