Bastola named acting Chair of NUP

KATHMANDU: Senior leader of the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP), Shiva Bastola, has been appointed as the acting chairperson of the party.
Chairperson Ranjita Shrestha Chaudhary assigned Bastola the role effective from Saturday, citing health issues that prevent her from being physically active in the party’s day-to-day affairs.
In the official letter of appointment, Shrestha mentioned her ongoing health concerns as the primary reason for delegating responsibilities to Bastola.
This development follows an ultimatum issued on Friday by a majority of the party’s central committee members, demanding a central committee meeting within 24 hours.
The very next day, Shrestha named Bastola as acting chair.
The decision comes at a time when internal disputes within the party are escalating, and the appointment is seen as a strategic move to manage the party’s operations amid the growing unrest.
