KATHMANDU: Barcelona crushed Athletic Club 5-0 to secure a spot in the Spanish Super Cup final in Saudi Arabia, dominating from the very first half.
In a historic performance, Barcelona scored four goals within the opening 16 minutes, becoming the first team in Super Cup semi-final history to net four times in a single half.
Ferran Torres opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a close-range finish, followed by Fermín López doubling the lead with a stunning strike in the 30th minute.
Roni Bardghji’s powerful shot slipped past goalkeeper Unai Simón in the 34th minute for the third goal, and Raphinha added another in the 38th minute.
Just four minutes into the second half, Raphinha scored again, completing his brace and Barcelona’s fifth goal.
The emphatic win marked Barcelona’s ninth consecutive victory in all competitions under Hansie Flick.
The Catalan giants will now face either Atlético Madrid or Real Madrid in the final, scheduled for Sunday in Jeddah.
As per the agreement between the Saudi Arabian and Spanish Football Federations, the Super Cup will continue to be hosted in Saudi Arabia until 2029.
