KATHMANDU: Police have arrested an additional suspect in connection with the brutal murder of a mother and her son in Parwanipur.

Authorities took a man identified as Dharmendra Mahato into custody after uncovering his alleged involvement in the killings of 52-year-old Sumitra Devi and her 32-year-old son Rameshwar Mandal, who were attacked in their home early Wednesday morning around 2 a.m.

Bara Police Chief, SP Narendra Kunwar, confirmed that Mahato is now under investigation, with authorities probing the full extent of his role in the incident.

Earlier, police had detained 28-year-old Manita Devi, daughter-in-law of Sumitra and wife of Rameshwar, in connection with the case.

According to the investigation, an intruder entered the family home at night and launched a violent attack with a sharp weapon.

Eight family members were present at the time, including Sumitra, her husband Jagruk Mandal, daughter Kirandevi, daughter-in-law Manita Devi, two other children, and a grandchild.

Sumitra and Rameshwar were killed, while Jagrook, Manita, and Kirandevi sustained injuries, with Jagrook reported in critical condition.

All injured family members are currently receiving treatment at LS Neuro Hospital in Parwanipur.

Police said that Sumitra was killed outside the house near the toilet while accompanying Manita, who had gone out at night.

Rameshwar’s body was found inside the home. Manita sustained minor injuries.

The case remains under investigation, with authorities working to uncover further details.
