Two killed, three injured in midnight home attack

KATHMANDU: Two members of the same family were killed after an assailant broke into their home and carried out a violent attack in Parwanipur, Bara, in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to police, the incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. at the residence of 52-year-old Sumitri Devi in Parwanipur Rural Municipality–1, Rahariyadi.
Sumitri Devi and her 32-year-old son Rameshwar Mandal died at the scene after being attacked with a sharp weapon while the family was asleep.
Rameshwar’s father, Jagaruk Mandal, along with two other family members, sustained serious injuries in the attack.
All three are in critical condition and are undergoing intensive treatment at LS Neuro Hospital, Parwanipur, police said.
Superintendent of Police Narendra Kunwar of the Bara District Police Office said a police team reached the scene immediately after receiving information and has launched an investigation.
“Preliminary findings suggest that an unidentified person entered the house at midnight and carried out a random and fatal attack with a sharp weapon,” SP Kunwar said. “We are at the crime scene and conducting a detailed investigation to identify the suspect and determine the motive.”
Police have intensified the search for the attacker as investigations continue.
