Baglung’s ‘Blue Hill’ set to become major tourist hub
Officials say that by the end of Ashad (mid-July), infrastructure worth Rs 25 million will be completed.
KATHMANDU: Baglung Municipality is rapidly transforming Ward No. 9’s “Blue Hill” into a premier tourist destination, marking one of the municipality’s most ambitious projects to date.
Officials say that by the end of Ashad (mid-July), infrastructure worth Rs 25 million will be completed.
Previously, the municipality had already invested Rs 7 million in land management, toilets, and a pavilion. Perched with panoramic views of the Himalayan range and Baglung Bazaar, the site has been officially named “Blue Hill” to serve as a central tourist hub.
Infrastructure development began last year, aiming to establish Blue Hill as both a religious and recreational destination. According to the detailed project report (DPR), the total investment for the project is Rs 250 million.
The first phase, costing Rs 7 million, was completed last year, while the second phase is currently underway in the ongoing fiscal year. Among the ongoing works is a two-story permanent building to host a 20-foot Shiva statue.
Raju Thapa, Chair of Ward No. 9, said the municipality has invested heavily in the project to transform the hill, locally known as “Doy,” into Blue Hill. “We are building infrastructure atop the hill to attract religious pilgrims and nature-loving tourists. Even though major infrastructure is underway, smaller facilities will follow. Once the site becomes a tourist destination, other facilities will also receive priority. The access road, however, still needs improvement,” Thapa added.
Last year, the municipality completed land leveling, wall construction, pavilion development, and toilet facilities.
Future plans, as outlined in the DPR, include picnic areas, meditation centers, observation decks, gyms, temples, and parking facilities.
Baglung Municipality Chief, Basanta Kumar Shrestha, emphasized that the local government is investing internal resources to develop Blue Hill as a flagship destination.
Situated approximately 2,200 meters above sea level, Blue Hill is quickly gaining recognition as a new hotspot for tourists.
