KATHMANDU: Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the Premier League with a 2-0 win over Brentford on Wednesday, while Liverpool drew 1-1 with Sunderland and Chelsea suffered a 3-1 defeat to Leeds United.

This win took Arsenal to 33 points, five ahead of second-placed Manchester City. Brentford dropped to 13th in the table following the defeat.

Chelsea’s struggles continued as Leeds United triumphed 3-1 at Elland Road.

Early goals from Jaka Bijol in the sixth minute and Ao Tanaka in the 43rd minute put Leeds in control. Pedro Neto briefly brought Chelsea back into the match in the second half, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s 72nd-minute strike confirmed Leeds’ victory.

The defeat leaves Chelsea fourth, nine points behind leaders Arsenal, while Leeds climb to 17th, overtaking West Ham.

Liverpool avoided defeat at Anfield, drawing 1-1 with Sunderland thanks to an own goal by Nordi Mukiele in the 81st minute.

Sunderland had initially taken the lead in the 76th minute through Chemseddine Talbi, whose long-range shot deflected off Virgil van Dijk. The draw keeps Liverpool in eighth place, with Sunderland in sixth.

In other fixtures, Aston Villa edged Brighton 4-3, while Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest secured 1-0 wins over Burnley and Wolves, respectively.
