Agenda, not individuals, key to nation’s governance: Keshav
Thapa stressed that Nepal’s political discourse has become overly individual-centric, whereas it should be firmly agenda-driven.
KATHMANDU: Rastriya Janamukti Party Chair Keshav Bahadur Thapa has said that the country needs clear and practical agendas, not personalities, to ensure effective governance.
Speaking on Friday while unveiling the party’s election manifesto, Thapa stressed that Nepal’s political discourse has become overly individual-centric, whereas it should be firmly agenda-driven.
He pointed out that Nepal’s current federal model is flawed and argued that both the federal structure and existing constitutional shortcomings must be corrected.
Emphasizing the need for reform, Thapa said constitutional amendment is necessary and should be carried out through broad political consensus.
However, he added that amendments alone may not resolve all structural problems.
According to him, a complete rewriting of the constitution could be considered on the basis of national consensus, ensuring that its positive aspects are preserved while weaknesses are removed and necessary provisions added.
Chairman Thapa also called for a national policy to eliminate corruption within five years and said industrialization is essential to make the country economically self-reliant.
He further proposed that candidates or political parties that fail to implement their election commitments should be brought under legal scrutiny.
Thapa said that only if citizens are allowed to challenge unfulfilled election pledges in court will political parties and candidates become truly accountable to their manifestos.
