Abhishek’s dream flight to Saudi ends in tragic death
For four years, Abhishek had worked tirelessly at a local burger house, striving to earn enough to uplift his family and fulfill his ambitions.
KATHMANDU: Had fate been kinder, 23-year-old Abhishek Shrestha of Itahari-16 would have been boarding a plane to Saudi Arabia on Saturday.
Tickets and visa in hand, Abhishek’s journey to chase his dreams and support his family took a tragic turn. Instead of stepping onto the plane, he never rose again—struck fatally by a bullet.
For four years, Abhishek had worked tirelessly at a local burger house, striving to earn enough to uplift his family and fulfill his ambitions.
On the day of his death, he had gone to collect his final payment. But on his way back home, his life was abruptly cut short by gunfire.
It remains unclear whether he was participating in the protests or merely caught in the chaos as a bystander. What is certain is the devastating impact on his family.
His father, working in Dubai, had to return to Nepal not for a flight abroad, but for a funeral.
“My son had gone just to collect his pay,” trembled Maizu Tara Shrestha, his mother. “He was hit in the nose and fell while walking back home.”
The Jen-Ji protests on Bhadra 23 claimed 19 lives. Abhishek was among them, along with Mohan Sada of Itahari-14.
Family, friends, and neighbors are left in shock and grief. “He was preparing to fly abroad… now our friend has gone so far we may never see him again,” mourned his friends.
Abhishek’s father has returned from Dubai, and his body is currently at BP Koirala Institute in Dharan.
