KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Police have registered a total of 104 complaints related to the Gen Z protests held on Sept  8–9 (Bhadra 23–24).

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Pawan Kumar Bhattarai detailed that among the complaints, 22 were filed by individuals, 66 were related to government offices, and 16 involved institutions and commercial establishments.

He confirmed that 49 deaths have been recorded during the protests, seven of which are yet to be identified.

DNA testing has been initiated for unidentified victims.

DSP Bhattarai added that seven complaints are currently under review.

Regarding damages during the protests, authorities have collected reports from 228 different locations.

The police have registered 154 cases including charges of murder, criminal disturbance, theft, illegal possession of weapons, assault, and other serious crimes.

So far, 267 individuals have been arrested in connection with these incidents.

Of the arrested, 87 have been released on bail pending investigation, while 113 are in judicial custody.

Among those presented in court, 23 were released on bail, and 43 remain in detention for further proceedings.

Only five of the arrested individuals are women.

The DSP also noted that 59 individuals who had escaped from jail during the protests have been recaptured.

These detainees are serving sentences for crimes ranging from attempted murder to assault.

The remaining 15 fugitives are reportedly still in police custody or under investigation.
