21 killed, 6 injured in massive blast at firecracker factory

KATHMANDU: At least 21 people have died and six others have been injured in a powerful explosion at a firecracker manufacturing factory in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, according to the state-run broadcaster All India Radio (AIR).

The incident occurred while workers were reportedly handling and transporting highly flammable chemical substances inside the facility.

Officials said around 50 workers were present in four different rooms of the factory at the time of the blast.

The explosion was so intense that it completely destroyed the factory building and caused severe structural damage, authorities confirmed.

Several of the injured are in critical condition, raising concerns that the death toll could rise further.

Police and relevant authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
