KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Economic Affairs of Gandaki Province has commenced preparations for the upcoming fiscal year 2082/83 budget.

According to Dilliram Rijal, Head of the Budget and Programs Division, pre-budget consultations are currently underway with local governments to ensure effective coordination and inclusive planning.

Preliminary discussions have already been conducted in Nawalpur and Tanahun districts. “We are also engaging with private sector entrepreneurs, business representatives, and economic experts to gather insights for budget formulation,” Rijal stated.

The ministry is scheduled to hold consultations with thematic ministries from Jestha 1 to Jestha 11.

Rijal emphasized that suggestions and expectations from relevant stakeholders are being incorporated into the process to ensure a participatory and impactful budget.

Local government representatives have reportedly suggested that the budget be made more inclusive and effective.

He further noted that pre-budget discussions have significantly contributed to enhancing the ministry’s understanding and approach toward budget preparation.

However, the overall budget size for the upcoming fiscal year is projected to decrease compared to the current one.

This is attributed to a reduction in equalization grants and shrinking revenue collections.

For the current fiscal year, Gandaki Province had unveiled a budget of Rs 32.97 billion.

For the upcoming year, a budget ceiling of Rs 29.5 billion has been set, Rijal confirmed.

As per the constitutional provision, the provincial government is required to present the budget on Asar 1.
