KATHMANDU: Kathmandu authorities have intensified security measures across the valley in preparation for the Holi festival.

According to Vinod Ghimire, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and chief of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, traffic inspections have been ramped up in all three districts—Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur—since early morning.

“This time, violators will not only face legal action but will also be stopped from celebrating Holi by keeping them off the roads throughout the day,” SSP Ghimire stated.

Over 120 checkpoints have been set up across the valley, with both traffic and general police working together to enforce the rules.

Special teams equipped with alcohol and drug testing kits have been deployed to ensure a safe environment.

Authorities have urged the public to celebrate Holi respectfully, limiting participation to close acquaintances to promote harmony.

District administration offices in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur have also warned of strict legal action against unruly behavior.

Holi is being celebrated today in Kathmandu and hilly regions, while the Terai region will observe the festival tomorrow.

In some districts, the celebrations extend over two days.
