KATHMANDU: After declining for seven consecutive trading days, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index witnessed a double-digit rise on Wednesday.

The NEPSE index surged by 17.28 points, closing at 2,736.48 points.

A total of 22.94 million shares of 323 companies were traded 79,236 times today, amounting to a turnover of Rs 8.23 billion.

Among sectoral indices, Development Bank and Microfinance groups declined by 0.33% and 0.27%, respectively, while all other sectors recorded gains.

The Investment sector led the rise with a 1.76% increase, followed by the Others sector with a 1.57% gain.

Banking rose by 0.53%, Finance by 0.02%, Hotels & Tourism by 0.64%, Hydropower by 0.85%, Life Insurance by 0.64%, Manufacturing & Processing by 0.18%, Mutual Funds by 0.10%, Non-Life Insurance by 0.40%, and Trading by 0.21%.

People’s Hydropower Company Limited recorded the highest gain of 9.79%, while Vin Nepal Microfinance Financial Institution Limited hit the negative circuit limit.

In terms of trading volume and transaction value, Machhapuchchhre Bank Limited’s promoter shares topped the chart, with 8.13 million shares traded, amounting to Rs 813.65 million, according to NEPSE.
