KATHMANDU: The hearing in the cooperative fraud case against Rabi Lamichhane, President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), will continue today at the Kathmandu District Court.

On Monday, the court’s bench, led by Judge Madhav Adhikari, ordered Lamichhane to remain in custody after the detention hearing remained incomplete.

Due to Tuesday being a public holiday, the remaining arguments were scheduled for today.

On Monday, 11 government attorneys presented their arguments.

Following their session, lawyers representing the plaintiff, Dr. Surendra Bhandari and Dinesh Tripathi, also submitted their statements.

Today, Lamichhane’s defense team, including former Attorney General and senior advocates Sushil Kumar Panta and Raman Shrestha, will continue presenting their arguments.

Lamichhane is accused of misusing funds from the Swarnalaxmi Multipurpose Cooperative in Kalimati, Kathmandu.

He is one of 44 individuals named as defendants in this case.

Earlier, on Jan 9, the Kaski District Court had released Lamichhane on bail of Rs 6.5 million in connection with another cooperative fraud case involving Suryadarshan Cooperative in Pokhara.

He was freed after posting the required bail amount.
