KATHMANDU: A grand inauguration ceremony was held today (Wednesday) for the newly constructed five-star Mercure Hotel at Sukedhara Heights, Kathmandu.
The hotel, which has been built with an investment of over Rs 3 billion by young entrepreneur Deshbandhu Basnet, was officially opened by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who cut the ribbon at the event. Basnet’s parents were also present at the ceremony.
The Mercure Hotel, located at Sukedhara Heights, is the first five-star hotel in Nepal offering state-of-the-art facilities under the French brand, Mercure.
The hotel is expected to play a significant role in boosting tourism by generating employment for the local workforce and attracting foreign tourists.
In his address during the inauguration, Basnet highlighted that the Mercure Hotel is not just a building but a blend of Nepal’s hospitality and culture.
He emphasized that the hotel reflects the nation’s identity and culture, ensuring the preservation and promotion of Nepali heritage.
Basnet also mentioned that through the Mercure Hotel, he aims to contribute to the development of the country’s tourism sector.
During the event, he expressed gratitude to the government for creating a favorable investment environment.
Prime Minister Oli, who also attended the event, expressed confidence that the Mercure Hotel will play a vital role in attracting French tourists to Nepal.
He noted that the hotel’s international brand and its innovative approach to the hospitality sector would encourage further growth in Nepal’s hotel industry. He added that the establishment of Mercure Hotel serves as proof of the ongoing development in Nepal’s hotel industry.
The Mercure Hotel Kathmandu is a new brand in Nepal’s hospitality sector. This 11-story hotel features 104 luxurious rooms, a 400-person banquet hall, and four types of rooms, including suites.
The hotel also offers a fitness center, steam, sauna, and a rooftop bar with a swimming pool, providing stunning views of the Himalayas and the Kathmandu Valley.
Spanning 6 ropanis of land, the Mercure Hotel has directly and indirectly provided employment to between 180 and 220 people.
The hotel is expected to become a key player in Nepal’s tourism development, contributing significantly to the country’s hospitality and economic growth.
