KATHMANDU: Local-level employees in Madhesh Province have launched a protest demanding their appointments be finalized.
A total of 160 employees, including those in technical, accounting, revenue, and administrative roles, are staging a sit-in at the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers in Janakpurdham.
The employees claim they resorted to protest after their repeated written and verbal appeals were ignored by the authorities.
Bir Bahadur Salaura, Coordinator of the Local-Level Employees’ Movement Committee, stated that despite passing the Federal Public Service Commission exams and being recommended for posts in Madhesh Province, many employees have been left without assignments for over a year.
Salaura pointed out that while other provinces have assigned employees recommended by the Commission, Madhesh Province has yet to do so.
As a result, the protesting employees have not received their salaries, perks, or benefits. Madhesh Province currently employs around 1,000 local-level staff members.
