KATHMANDU: Citizen Life Insurance organized a significant event to address gender violence as part of its seventh annual celebration, marking the launch of its Women’s Forum, which includes 11 members.
The forum was created to enhance the work environment for female employees, coordinate necessary actions for addressing workplace issues, and offer solutions when problems arise.
This is the first event organized by the forum, which aims to facilitate discussions and actions regarding workplace challenges.
In alignment with the ongoing global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, the event took place on Nov 29 at the company’s headquarters. The theme of the event was “Our Commitment to Ending Gender Violence,” focusing on building unity against gender violence.
Parvati Aryal, Secretary of the National Women’s Commission, was the keynote speaker at the event. She provided a comprehensive training session on the types of gender violence, workplace harassment, and the legal measures that organizations should implement to prevent and address such issues.
Aryal encouraged the 178 attendees, both in-person and online, to commit to standing against gender violence. She emphasized that gender violence affects not only women but also men, and offered guidance on legal steps for those who face such violence.
Forum Chair Rita Pathak presented a code of conduct aimed at encouraging and supporting women’s roles in the workplace. She urged victims of gender violence to speak out and shared the forum’s commitment to organizing more educational programs in the future. Pathak also outlined plans for various corporate social responsibility initiatives aligned with the forum’s goals.
