KATHMANDU: Siddharth Sunny Resort, the first four-star hotel in Karnali State, located in Birendranagar, Surkhet, has focused on promoting the region’s local products.
The hotel is promoting and selling various local products through its souvenir shop.
The souvenir shop features items like simi (lentils), marsi rice, maize, honey, walnuts, rudraksha, and green tea, as mentioned by the hotel’s operations manager, Ramkrishna Timilsena.
According to him, the shop also stocks wooden products made by the Rautes and other communities.
Traditional items like dakhiya (basket), daalo, and doko made by the Tharu community are also stocked.
While it is common for hotel souvenir shops to offer jewelry and clothing, this hotel has chosen to showcase local products from the region. “The aim of starting this initiative is to allow visitors to take home various products and organic agricultural items as souvenirs, representing Karnali,” he said. “We expect that local products will gain promotion and commercialization, encouraging farmers in the process through this effort.”
Promoting local crops and products is coordinated with the Small Industrial Village Management Committee under the Ministry of Industry of Karnali State.
The committee chair, Udiram Dangi, shared that the committee is working to ensure the supply of these products.
