NPL kicks off today with Biratnagar Kings vs Janakpur Royals

KATHMANDU: The first edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL), organized by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), begins today (Saturday).
The opening match will see Biratnagar Kings face off against Janakpur Royals at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.
The game is scheduled to start at 12:15 PM.
During the pre-tournament press conference held on Friday, Biratnagar Kings’ captain Sandeep Lamichhane emphasized the competitive spirit of the game. “While Anil (Janakpur Royals’ captain) and I are good friends off the field, on the field, we are competitors. Everyone aims to win, and we are no different,” said Lamichhane.
On the other hand, Janakpur Royals’ captain Anil Sah chose to keep his strategy under wraps, stating, “Everything will be revealed during the game.”
The tournament will run until Dec 21 (Poush 6), featuring eight teams: Biratnagar Kings, Janakpur Royals, Chitwan Rhinos, Kathmandu Gurkhas, Lumbini Lions, Pokhara Avengers, Karnali Yaks, and Sudurpaschim Royals.
A total of 32 matches will be played under a single round-robin league format, including 28 league matches, three playoffs, and the grand final.
